Plan Your Trip

1step

Develop a Team

We encourage people who are interested in going on a short-term mission trip to form a team either from your church, organization, school, or family and friends. We challenge our teams to have a minimum of 15 people, however, 10 people is the minimum team size. Our guest house can comfortably accommodate a team of 25.

2step

Choose a Team Leader

Team Leaders serve as the main contact person for HRI for your team. The Team Leader helps recruit the team, makes all arrangements with HRI, encourages the team in their fundraising efforts, sends all monies in by the deadlines, is often the spiritual leader,  and oversees the team on its trip.

Team Leaders can contact our office to secure a trip date and to receive a Team Leader’s Packet that includes a Team Leader’s Guide that will walk you through the entire process of planning a successful trip, applications for your team, team building and cross-cultural activities to better prepare your team.

3step

Individuals

If you are not part of a team but would like to join us in Guatemala, we would still love to have you!  You may choose to come on one of three dates specified for teams made of individuals from across the country.  This is a great way to serve on a mission trip and meet new people. Contact our Missions Coordinator for more information.

4step

Choose a Date

HRI sends teams to Guatemala year-around. Trips are generally 8-days long, starting and end on Saturday. HRI will officially reserve the week you would like to plan your trip only when we have received a signed agreement from the Team Leader and a deposit from your team.

COST PER PERSON

$1,000 + airfare (averages between $450-$700).

COST BREAKDOWN

$300 Food & Lodging
$150 Transportation in Guatemala

$150 Project funds

FIELD MINISTRY COSTS

$100 Mercy Ministry: This money allows HRI to respond quickly and effectively to mercy needs as they occur throughout the country. In the past these funds have helped rush a neighbor injured in a motorcycle accident to the hospital, assisted a member of our construction team in covering the costs of cancer treatment for his mother, provided treatments for children in the dump diagnosed with rare medical conditions, and have helped with disaster relief efforts.

$200 Ministry Advancement: When your team arrives in Guatemala you will be entering a ministry that is on the move in a variety of ways and places. Your team will serve alongside passionate local Christians, many of whom have often made sacrifices in their own lives in order to work and serve with HRI in underprivileged communities. The people with whom we partner are often catalysts for change and hope. Your $200 provides crucial resources to help them meet needs and increase the impact they can have in the communities in which they work.

Donations

We are often asked about bringing donations of shoes, cloths and other items to distribute to the different communities during the trip. We have a very direct position on donations. We believe in empowering individuals to help themselves and preventing a situation of dependency on organizations like Hope Renewed. We believe in providing a HAND UP. . . NOT A HAND OUT. This means that donations are kept to specific items that further the programs of Hope Renewed in each community. For example, bringing much needed supplies to the preschool reduces the overall cost of running this program and fits perfectly into our mission of empowerment through education. We can provide an updated list for you and your team should you decide to bring down additional donations.
